Quiltmaker Magazine 100 Quilt Blocks Volume 15 + Giveaway

Hello and Welcome to my Blog!

Today I discovered that the Quiltmaker Magazine 100 Quilt Blocks Volume 15 Blog Hop started on Monday and today -- Thursday -- is actually day 4.  Somehow, I missed the Blog Hop boat and I have no idea how that happened.  I emailed Quiltmaker today to find out what was going on, but they didn't reply....

I'm pretty disappointed that I did not get to participate because Blog Hops are SEW MUCH FUN.  I decided that I would do my own Blog Hop GIVEAWAY since I didn't get the opportunity to participate in the official blog hop.

So....WELCOME to my very own solo Blog Hop!
_________________________________________________________________________________

My block is called CITY BLOCK and it is #1476, on page 48.

Isn't it fun?  I chose a selection of modern fabrics by Cotton+Steel.   This block uses 2 1/2" strips so you can use jelly roll strips, too.

Here it is, replacing the printed fabrics with solids.  Striking, isn't it?

Look what happens when I use a black solid background in my favorite red, black, grey (or white) colorway!  Isn't it really sharp?

Now that we've played around with the block a little bit, let's see what it looks like in a project.  Here's a very mellow beachy table runner design using 5 blocks.

How about a couple of trendy place mats?

I hope you've enjoyed playing around with my block a little bit.  I hope you'll look for the magazine at your favorite quilt shop or newsstand.

BUT WAIT....................DON'T GO.....................THERE'S STILL MORE!
KEEP READING......YOU'LL GET TO THE GIVEAWAYS SOON, I PROMISE!!!
_________________________________________________________________________

Ever since my new quilt book, I LOVE PRECUT QUILTS! came out, I definitely have precuts on my brain (oh no -- I hope it's not contagious!).  Just look at my City Block block (sorry about the repetition here......).  You can make this block from Jelly Roll strips, fat quarters, or even out of your stash.  Just about every quilt that I make now,  I find some way to incorporate precuts.  I'm even starting to challenge myself to make small projects out of my leftover precut bits and  pieces....

If you're new to my blog, let me tell you a little bit about my latest book.

My book has 16 go-to projects ranging from place mats and table runners to wall quilts, throws, and YES! even big bed quilts.  The projects are easy enough for beginners but interesting enough for more advanced quilters, too.  It  has a fun fresh contemporary feel that is light and airy and all of the projects feature traditionally-pieced blocks.

Here are some of projects from my book:

I'm really excited right now because I'm heading to Spring Quilt Market in St. Louis in 2 weeks for my book's official debut.  I will be participating in a Schoolhouse lecture and doing a book signing at the C&T Booth.  So if you're headed to Market, stop by -- I'd love to meet you and show you my new book.

Want your own copy??????
You can find my book (ebooks are also available!) at these locations online:

I  also have SIGNED copies available on my website:

(Psst!)  Don't forget to ask for it at your favorite quilt shop.

SURPRISE!  I'm also giving a copy of I Love Precut Quilts! away, see below.

I LOVE PRECUT QUILTS! BLOG HOP KICK OFF

Greetings!

My name is Tricia Maloney and I'm the author of the new C&T book, I Love Precut Quilts!  I'm here today to invite you to come along with me on a super fun quilt blog hop to celebrate my new book from January 30th - February 3rd.

WHAT'S A BLOG HOP?

A blog hop is a group of bloggers who are all writing about the same topic -- in this case, my new book.  Each blogger is assigned a day during the hop and decides what he/she will write about. For example, some bloggers might decide to create projects from my book to share with you, while others might do a book review, or even an author interview.  Blog hops generally run for a specific number of days and often include fun giveaways.  This blog hop runs from January 30th - February 3rd and you will be able to register at each blogger's blog to win a copy of I Love Precut Quilts! (international winners will receive an ebook copy of the book).

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

Below, you will find the I Love Precut Quilts! blog hop schedule along with links to all of the bloggers who are involved with the hop.

All you have to do is click the links each day to go to the featured bloggers. Once there, read the blogger's post and follow the instructions to register for the giveaway.  It's that simple to get in on the fun!

Ho Ho Ho for Me! I Love Precut Quilts! Book Review

I am SEW EXCITED!  Deirdre at C&T forwarded me the link for my first book review.

The book review below is from Yarns and Fabrics in the UK.

I Love Precut Quilts by Tricia Maloney

I Love Precut Quilts by Tricia Maloney, softback published by C&T Publishing, ISBN 9871617453427, price 14.99 available in the U.K. from www.searchpress.com

Forget the hassle of cutting fabric and use jelly rolls, charm squares, layer cakes, fat quarters and more. Cutting takes time and is often where mistakes are easily made, so you can save time buying pre-cuts and put all your effort into the design and make-up of the quilt. See 16 fast and fun projects to use pre-cuts. For each design, you get a full colour image of the finished quilt, the measurements, shopping list, cutting, construction, making and finishing, plus a diagram so that you know how everything goes together, and alternative colourways. I have been looking for a simple idea to use my favourite Morris charm pack and I think the first design in this book Around and Round might just fit the bill. I can see easy ways of adapting this design too. I like most of the designs, but some stand out for me Divide and Conquer, Big Bow Ties and City Houses. get quilting without delay.

Thanks sew much for a lovely review, Yarns and Fabrics!

My well-traveled little owl friend, Ollie, went with me to Quilt Market in Hoston.  He loved visiting booths on the Market floor.

It's here! It's here! + Getting Ready for Market

YAY!

My advance copy of my book came recently and I've been having the most fun showing it around!

It looks so much better as a book than as a file on my computer screen.  LOL!  I'm not quite sure when it will be available for purchase, though.  Sometime between the middle of November and beginning of December.

 #####

I'm getting really excited right now because I'm headed to International Quilt Market this coming week.  Sew much to do, but sew little time.

I'm going to be doing some demos at the Enmart booth #1365.  Here's a fun blog interview:

My Interview with Enmart

I'm also going to be creating a short video about my book. Keep your fingers crossed that I'll be able to accomplish that.......

I'll be taking lots of photos at Market so stay tuned in upcoming blog entries to see what's new and exciting in the quilt world (or maybe just the stuff that I think is new and exciting).

C&T Blog Post about I Love Precut Quilts! and a Show

YAY!  I should be receiving an advance copy of my new book any day now...maybe even tomorrow.  :)

In the meantime, C&T blogged about my book on Friday.  Here's the link.  Check it out -- it shows several of the projects and features the introduction from the book.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.......

I Love Precut Quilts! Blog Post

________________________________________________________________________________

Now I don't normally vend at shows because I'm more of a designer/quilter/author/lecturer but one of our local shows, Octoberfest,  lowered its fee so I thought I'd take a chance since I have umpteen quilts that need to find new homes.  (Honestly, I think I need to start a quilt adoption program.)

Although sales weren't that great and I went home with almost all the quilts that I took with me -- umm, that was around 66 -- I had a great time and did a lot of networking about my book, lectures, teaching, etc.  So, maybe this show will surprise me at some point in the future.

Here's some pics of my booth.  I was pretty luck that the vendor diagonal to me never showed so I, of course, offered to fill the space with quilt eye candy.  (wink, wink!)

Ollie the Owl is Going Places

Everyone remembers "Where's Waldo" right?  Or maybe the "Flat Stanley" school project where A child mails a paper "Flat Stanley" to a grandparent or friend who lives somewhere else and that person takes Stanley around and writes about his adventures?

Well, I have a really fun idea that I'm going to do.

Meet  Ollie Q. Owl --

Taking a little time out of his very busy schedule to

smell the flowers and to say "Hello."

Ollie is young, single, and loves to travel.  His favorite color is green.  He likes sunsets, dogs, and going on road trips.  He has many friends and enjoys hanging out.  But most off all -- he adores adventures.

Well, Ollie just got back from a trip across the country.  He traveled in the company of my 16 quilt projects for my new book, I Love Precut Quilts! all the way from Pennsylvania to California and back again.

In fact, Ollie is even in the new quilt book -- he's such a super star!  Ollie says that you just have to get your own copy of I Love Precut Quilts! when it comes out in November just so that you have his photo.  And if you see us around sometime, he might even autograph his picture for you!

So I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun to tuck Ollie in my bag and take him with me?  I could even take a photo of him in different places and blog about his adventures."

So there we are.

Ollie has already traveled farther than I have and through more states than I've seen. So, where is Ollie headed to next?

Ugh.....Time to Start Marketing......

Well, it's now a little lest than 6 months until my new quilt book comes out sew -- you guessed it -- time to start marketing.

It's funny, you know, because the real work of writing a book doesn't even begin until after you're done with edits and revisions and projects.

MARKETING.

It's like a bad word, isn't it?  But, in order to get your product (in my case, book) out there in front of people, there's a lot to be done.

I thought I'd write this blog about some basic marketing ideas -- some I've used for previous books and others are new ones that I'm going to try out.

Traditional Marketing Techniques
  • book signings
  • trunk shows
  • teaching classes
  • visiting quilt shops
  • sending out mailings to quilt shops
  • talking, talking, talking
  • book reviews in magazines
  • submitting projects/articles to magazines
  • connecting with guilds, groups, and other organizations
  • Quilt Market/Schoolhouse Lecture

Social Media/Internet Marketing Technique
  • website
  • blog
  •  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • blog hops
  • guest blogger
  • host giveaways
  • contact bloggers and ask for book reviews
  • internet quilting radio shows
Well, this is a good start, but I bet I forgot some so I ma add more ideas at a later date.

Do you have any ideas to share?
